Every two hours during the day, Melanie pours in nutritional glop or water to my feeding tube, called, for some reason, a “Peg Tube.” She has also begun giving me small dishes of crushed ice chips so I can relearn and practice swallowing.

Today she sat at the table with me playing worship songs off her laptop computer for us after setting the ice before me. I got to hear several songs because the swallowing is difficult and still very slow.

At one point I stopped and cried out the plea of Bartimaeus: Lord Jesus Christ, Son of David, have mercy on me. I cried out three times, getting louder each time. Good enough for Bartimaeus, good enough for me. I wanted the get Jesus’ attention and wasn’t ashamed to act like it.

Not a prayer for church. Maybe. But I’m learning about prayer and tears these days. Maybe I’m catching up, finally.
